Last week we were delighted to welcome author Alice Broadway into school. Alice took a series of workshops with our Year 8 children, helping them to create memorable characters, you can read all about that here. Following her visit we thought we'd ask Alice what she enjoyed most about her time here and if she had any advice for other young aspiring writers.
What did you enjoy about your day at Archbishop Temple School? Meeting so many inspiring, creative and talented young people. I was really impressed with all the great ideas that they came up with and I hope some of them will write about the characters they created. It was a great experience and I loved meeting the students.
Who were your literary inspirations when you were a teenager? I read a lot of anything as a teenager - I loved Jane Eyre and anything by Jane Austen, and I also still loved revisiting Roald Dahl and anything that was a quick, fun read.
You have inspired pupils to go away and write their own stories. What advice would you give to other young aspiring writers? My best advice is to keep reading - the more you read, the better a writer you will be. Try out books you wouldn't normally pick, read poetry and papers. Mrs Dearden will be excellent at recommending books - test her out and see what she comes up with for you!
