Canterbury House is a really caring and considerate house. One of the main aims of Canterbury staff is to ensure that all pupils feel part of a warm and friendly community and an added bonus is that we occasionally win the inter-house cup, although we usually come second! Thanks to our talented athletes we have won the annual sports day on several occasions and are also lucky to count many talented musicians amongst our ranks. In all activities we ‘give it a go’ and have fun in the process.
As a house we have chosen a number of varied charities to support over the last few years. These are always close to our hearts and usually chosen based on the appeal put forward by the pupils themselves in assembly time. This year we'll be supporting the Ronald McDonald House in Manchester who support families of children requiring overnight accommodation near Manchester Children's Hospital. We were the first house to raise funds for our sponsor child Elvis and therefore had the honour of choosing which part of the world we wanted our support to go to. A few other special charities who have received our help include ‘Vine House Cancer Care Trust’ who cared for Mr Randall in 2008 whilst he was suffering with cancer. Alderhey Children’s hospital who saved the life of one of our pupils when he was a baby. The North West Air Ambulance who rescued an ex-pupil, saving her life. MNDA who supported someone’s Grandad. MIND who have helped the friends and family of many of us. There are many others and will be many more.
Assemblies are important to us each week. This is our opportunity to meet together in fellowship and to share in each other’s successes be that in music, PE or general helpfulness when someone in the house is nominated as ‘Canterbury Corker’ for being a role model to other pupils. All forms take part in the delivery of worship and we often have visiting speakers.
Miss Walsh is our Head of House and nobody could be as keen and enthusiastic to take our house forward. Not just to win cups but to develop us all spiritually and make us proud to know that we are members of the best house!
