My story

I did not know what I wanted to do for my career when I was a pupil at Archbishop Temple, so I picked the subjects I had enjoyed and took them forward at college. I ended up resitting year 12 after realising the subjects I had chosen were not for me. Therefore, I decided to take Economics even though, unlike me, the majority of the class had done a GCSE in it. However, it was the best decision and I was awarded The Economics A-Level Prize for my results.

I took a year out to travel, and after reading a book on economic inequality, I decided to do a BSc in Economics at the University of Exeter. After that, I undertook a research job at the university and then completed a Masters Degree at the London School of Economics in Inequalities and Social Science. I am now currently looking for research/policy jobs in the third sector including think tanks and charities, as well as these roles in the public sector.

My advice to you:

The 3 pieces of advice I followed are

1) do what you enjoy

2) don’t be afraid to change your mind and try again

3) be confident, take those risks and go for it.
