Safeguarding legislation and government guidance says that safeguarding means:

  • Protecting children from maltreatment
  • Preventing impairment of children’s health or development
  • Ensuring that children are growing up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care
  • Taking action to enable all children and young people to have the best outcome
  • Safeguarding includes child protection, health care plans, health and safety, site security, safety on school trips, anti-bullying work and so much more.

At Archbishop Temple Church of England High School, we are committed to ensuring that every child in our care is safe, supported, and able to thrive. Our Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) oversees all safeguarding concerns, and parents are encouraged to contact the DSL or safeguarding team if they have any concerns.

You can email safe@archbishoptemple.com and a member of the safeguarding team will get in touch.

Parents play a crucial role in safeguarding, as recognising signs of harm such as physical or emotional abuse, neglect, or unusual behaviour changes can be essential. To support children’s safety online, we advise setting boundaries, using parental controls, and fostering open communication. Our school, works closely with families to address concerns early, including offering Early Help support to prevent issues from escalating. We understand that safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility and together, we want to foster a safe, supportive environment for every pupil.

The school adheres to the following three DFE safeguarding documents:

Working Together to Safeguard Children (2023)
Keeping Children Safe in Education (2024)
The Prevent Duty

The school has a suite of Safeguarding documents which are reviewed regularly. These are:

  • Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy
  • Attendance Policy
  • Behaviour Recovery Policy

All staff receive annual Safeguarding training and are aware of the procedures for passing on concerns within school.
