Welcome from Mrs Parkinson (Head of Year 7 & Transition Coordinator)

We are delighted that your child will be joining Archbishop Temple Church of England High School in September.

We know that the time between accepting your place with us and starting in September can be worrying, so it is our aim to ensure that your child feels supported throughout their transition and that their move to secondary school goes as smoothly as possible. Teachers and pupils alike, are looking forward to making you feel a welcome part of our school community.

This page is to give you some reassurance and let you know what will happen next:

  • March-June: Primary schools

Once we have all the acceptance forms, Archbishop Temple Church of England High School staff will contact your child’s school. This is a chance for us to pass on information about the school and gather relevant information to support your child’s transition. We have a dedicated year 7 team, and one of us will visit your child in their primary setting. Where possible, we will incorporate our current Year 7 pupils in visits, so that the children can hear about life at Archbishop Temple from a pupil's perspective, and someone who has recently been on the journey from primary, to high school.

  • 1st July – Primary Taster Day

This will be an opportunity for your child to visit the school and experience some of the lessons, activities and daily routines of secondary school. Further information on this will be sent out in due course.

We will write to you again at the end of term with details of how to book on to the Year 7 Welcome Eucharist in September.

You will be invited to attend a Year 7 Welcome Evening following Primary Taster Day on Monday 1st July 2024.

If you have any questions related to starting with us, please contact us by using the contact form.

As a school community, we would like to welcome you into our family. We are looking forward to meeting you in September!

On transition day, you will receive a copy of After the War by Tom Palmer. This is a beautifully told novel of friendship and belonging, inspired by the incredible true story of the Windermere Boys. In year 7, you will visit From Auschwitz to Ambleside at the Lake District Holocaust Project.

You will receive a copy of the year 6 transition booklet on your taster day. It is designed to aid your transition into secondary school, prepare you for the lessons, and answer any questions you may have. Bring this booklet on your first day in school and hand in to your form tutor.
