We are delighted that your child will be joining Archbishop Temple School in September.

We know that the time between accepting your place with us and starting in September can be worrying, so it is our aim to ensure that your child feels supported throughout their transition and that their move to secondary school goes as smoothly as possible. This page is to give you some reassurance and let you know what will happen next:

  • March-June: Primary visits

Once we have all the acceptance forms, Archbishop Temple School staff will come and visit your child at their primary school. This is a chance for us to pass on information about the school, and gather relevant information, but also gives your child the opportunity to ask any questions they may have. Wherever possible, we will bring current Year 7 pupils with us so that the children can hear about life at Archbishop Temple School from a pupil's perspective, and someone who has recently been on the journey from primary, to high school.

  • July: Taster Day

Your child will receive a letter inviting them to our Primary Taster Day in July. At this event, the new Year 7 pupils will meet each other, as well as their form tutors and Heads of House. This is an exciting day for pupils, as they try out a range of lessons to get a feel for what life is like here at Archbishop Temple. We invite parents to join us at 2.30pm, where there will be an opportunity to meet key members of staff and allay any lingering concerns.

  • September: First day of school

On the first day of school, we have a staggered start to the day, which will involve the school being open to Year 7 pupils and their peer mentors only, until break. Pupils will spend time in their form groups, getting to know their peers and discussing their timetables. After break, pupils will meet the rest of their tutor group to go through routines and expectations. The remainder of the day they will follow their daily timetable.

Again, we are very pleased to welcome you to our Archbishop Temple family and look forward to a long and happy association with you and your child. Lots more information can be found in our Year 7 Handbook and by clicking the links below, however if you have any queries in the meantime, please contact me on the school number or by email via the staff contacts page.
