On Monday 11th and Tuesday 12th of November, year 7 had the opportunity to visit the Noorul Islam Mosque and Blackburn Cathedral. The RE department had organised this trip to coincide with Interfaith week. Pupils had a tour around the mosque, a short talk from the Imam and a demonstration of how Muslims pray and perform Wudu.

We then went to Blackburn Cathedral, where we completed a range of activities looking at symbolism within Christianity. Pupils went to a range of different stations led by volunteers and completed some thoughtful and reflective tasks, asking them to think about what they promise to themselves and our school, exploring intercessions, forgiveness, sharing their burdens and confessions, and walking a labyrinth. Pupils were also given the chance to meet some members of the Jewish community, see some artefacts and ask questions.

Pupils were fantastic on both days, asking thoughtful questions, being inquisitive and respectful towards all members of the different faith communities we met. We had many comments from the volunteers and members of the public who said they were very impressed with our pupils, well done year 7!

As part of interfaith week, we are looking at what influences our worldviews in RE lessons. We have also ran some drop in sessions in the chapel, including arts and crafts influenced by faith and tried out some Buddhist meditation.
