Last week, all of our pupils in year 7 watched an engaging road safety performance that used theatre to provide them with an engaging learning experience. For many pupils who started secondary school in September it will be the first time they have travelled to school independently. At first, the journeys will be novel and require planning and attention, but soon they will become routine and familiar. Through this familiarity, students will start to use the roads on auto pilot, which can lead to dangerous distractions.

Presented by Performance in Education, the Streetwise programme highlighted the consequences of pupils’ actions on the roads, identifying risky behaviours such as not crossing in a safe place, dashing across the road without looking, being distracted by music and friends and not walking sensibly. The performance highlighted what needed to change and gave pupils strategies to reinforce this change.

Performance in Education has been commissioned by Lancashire County Council Road Safety and is being delivered to secondary schools across Lancashire. Thank you to Performance in Education for delivering such an engaging session.
