To celebrate Science Week, pupils in year 8 had a lot of fun learning about aerodynamics with Steve Cooper from BAE Systems. Steve showed pupils an example of a rocket that would fly really well due to its design and then challenged pupils to design a rocket that had bad air resistance properties, so it would be the worst flying rocket. Pupils had a lot of fun testing out their rockets in the hall, with the winner being the rocket that flew the least distance. Afterwards, pupils considered the four forces of flight: lift, weight, thrust and drag when looking at why some rockets had flown further than others. Thanks to Mrs Costigan and to Steve from BAE Systems for a memorable lesson.
