We were delighted to welcome David Elliott and Samantha Clegg, from Preston College, to chat to our year 9 pupils about T levels today.
T levels are two year qualifications which combine study in college with an industry placement. Samantha talked about the T level entry requirements and explained the difference between T levels, where 80% is studying in college and 20% on an industry placement, and apprenticeships, where 80% of the qualification is work based and 20% is in college. Samantha explained that that the industrial placement is for 45 days, this may be divided into block placements across the duration of the two year course. The advantages of these placements are that they enable students to gain experience of work and learn industry specific skills, which can be added to a CV and taken into employment.
T level qualifications are the equivalent to studying 3 A levels, so studying the qualifications enable students to apply to university. A Distinction* awarded at T level is the equivalent to an A* at A level. Preston College currently offers 16 T level courses and the number of T levels being offered will be increasing. The college is holding an open evening tonight, on Wednesday 8th March, from 4pm - 7pm and pupils from years 9, 10 and 11 are welcome to attend. Please register on the Preston College website.
Our school independent careers advisor attends school every Monday. Pupils are welcome to attend a careers advice drop-in session at lunch from 1pm-1.45pm.
